Free DSST Practice Tests
One of the best ways to prepare for the DANTES exams and DSST tests is to familiarize yourself with the types of questions that will appear and the way in which the tests are formatted. Starting to think about the study material in an exam format will do wonders for your confidence. Luckily, there are a number of resources available to help you do this, and the best is practice tests. Answering practice questions will give you a good indication of how ready you are to take the actual DSST tests, and will also help keep you from panicking come exam time.
Here are some resources we have found that offer free DSST questions for you to practice with.
If you are an employee of the U.S. Department of Defense, part of the active or reserve military, or a veteran, then you can register for Peterson’s and receive free access to practice exams and other helpful resources. See what Peterson’s has to offer here.
- DANTES Test Prep
This site has free practice tests for ten DSST subjects: Art of the Western World, Criminal Justice, Environment and Humanity, Ethics in America, Here’s to Your Health, Introduction to World Religions, Personal Finance, Substance Abuse, Technical Writing, and The Civil War and Reconstruction. Check them out here.
- InstantCert Academy
If you want access to more than just a few questions to practice with, then the top resource we recommend is InstantCert Academy (see our review of InstantCert here). InstantCert is an online study guide that is set up in a multiple choice flashcard format. This lets you absorb exam material as you answer practice questions and learn from your answers (both your correct answers and mistakes). For each DSST study guide InstantCert offers, it gives you free access to five practice questions so that you can see if the study format fits your learning style. These five questions are free for you to practice with, so definitely take advantage of them. See an example of these practice questions here.
